I&SI designs and constructs systems of remote control and long-distance monitoring capable of providing, in real time, the status of each individual component/subsystem of the system to be controlled, guaranteeing:
- full compliance with international standards;
- on-line help available at any point in time;
- security measures to prevent unauthorised access to information and systems at every level (INFOSEC and COMSEC).
In accordance with the high-level technical and quality prerequisites of the military, I&SI has constructed, based on specifications from the Italian Navy, a system of long-distance monitoring for the lights installed in more than 600 of the over 1000 lighthouses that operate along Italy’s 8,000 Km of coastline. The system includes field devices, sensors, supervisory centres (on three hierarchical levels) and portable test equipment. The chief characteristics of the system are:
- protection of the equipment against inclement weather, with a wave-protection rating of IP67;
- low absorption;
- high overall reliability (MTBF) and ease of maintenance (MTTR);
- simple to use, even by non-expert operators.
For the ENAV (Italy’s Civil Aeronautics Authority), I&SI has created a system for the remote monitoring of the operating status of technological facilities and individual pieces of equipment used in the air-traffic control activities typically performed by the ENAV. Among other functions, the systems installed make it possible to control and modify, if necessary, the configurations of sensors and of data concentrators. Furthermore, proper remote management of the more than 150 field units installed at all of Italy’s airports also contributes to flight safety.
